Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System is a cartoon written by Francisco Angones (along with DuckTales 2017's normal team of writers) and directed by John Aoshima. It features Scrooge McDuck, Dewey Duck, Launchpad McQuack, Gyro Gearloose, Mark Beaks, the Headless Man-Horse, the Job Applicant, and, in their debut, Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, his alias Gizmoduck, B.U.D.D.Y. and Jim Starling. Li'l Bulb is also obliquely mentioned.

DescriptionEdit

After finally getting his long-overdue driver's license, Launchpad McQuack suddenly fears that Scrooge McDuck may be considering replacing him with Mark Beaks's latest driver robot, B.U.D.D.Y.. He teams up with Gyro Gearloose (jealous that this "hack" Beaks has apparently gotten the drop on him) in a race of man-versus-machine to prove his worth. Mix up some morally-volatile Gearloose tech, clumsy but well-meaning intern Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, and a bunch of crashes, and you've got the adventure of a lifetime…

Behind the scenes Edit

Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System is the thirteenth episode of DuckTales 2017.

Its plot is mostly original, but it bears striking similarities to Armstrong from the original DuckTales, with Launchpad McQuack competing with a mechanical man who seems more competent than him but ends up turning evil. Though this is likely coincidental, the basic plot structure (a plucky clumsy driver as main character who tries to "play it safe" to please his boss, only to successfully fall back to his old reckless ways to stop an evildoer) also echoes the 1962 comic story The Baddie in the Cabbie (where Donald Duck was the driver).
