Hortense is Scrooge's old horse.

Scrooge McDuck rode this temperamental mare, given to him by Murdo McKenzie after he proved the only chap stubborn enough to ride her, during his youth as a cow-boy. He'd named her after his little sister, because both of them had terrible tempers.
