The Spear of Selene was a rocket ship from the 2017 Continuum.
The Spear of Selene was an experimental rocketship designed Della Duck in the early 2000's to enable her, her brother Donald and her uncle Scrooge to explore space (now that they had seen almost all of what there was to be seen on Earth). She named the rocket after her good friend Selene, the Goddess of the Moon; although Selene later stated that she had never owned a 'spear', it is known that by 2017, Scrooge McDuck owned a painting which appeared to depict Selene holding aloft a spear pointing at the Moon.
Donald opposed the project, deeming it too dangerous, especially considering that Della was an expecting mother at the time. Scrooge, however, spirited the plans and built the rocket in secret, hoping to unveil it in honor of the hatching of Della's children (Huey, Dewey and Louie). This proved a fatal mistake, as the ever-reckless Della ("always good at sniffing out surprises") discovered the rocket and decided to take it for a test flight in the dead of night. An unpredicted cosmic storm broke out, and the Spear crashed onto the Moon where Della was stranded for over a decade, repurposing the technology of the broken bits of Spear into a barely-functional shelter while the world below (her children included) believed her dead.
Behind the scenesEdit
The Spear of Selene is a running mystery throughout Season 1 of DuckTales 2017, first mentioned in Woo-oo! and being repeatedly talked about throughout the season before finally making a proper flashback appearance in the penultimate episode The Last Crash of the Sunchaser. Prior to the reveal of the rocket-ship plot, it was widely believed that the Spear of Selene was an artifact, much like the one depicted in the statue of the same name.
